Fresh out of school, we were in the heart of a golden age.
Right after we had gotten our acceptance letters to Brown I knew that something special was going to happen to us and our lives. His voice was sweet and soothing. Much like sensual elevator music, but his voice wasn't the greatest thing about him at the time. It was his soothing touch. Every time he touched me it felt like freshly shaved legs and satin sheets.
We were both undergrads, and fresh out of high school, we were both 18, which was great be
cause back in the 60s the drinking age was lowered, and us, we were one of the lucky ones.
We had gotten ourselves two bottles of cheap wine and brownie mix, and we were absolutely ready to have ourselves a beautiful night in with each other, his pet turtle, and the soothing voice of Donna Summers playing softly in the background as we laid on his carpet staring up at the ceiling together talking about the state of our economy, our favorite pizza toppings, and the debate on whether or not we should get take-out or if we should try to make something weird and utterly spectacular.
The night felt like it lasted forever, but not in a bad way.
When you're spending time with somebody you care for deeply, time almost seems to stand still. That's exactly what it did for us that night.
